What is a daret?

Daret, also written dart, is the Moroccan name for a rotating savings group. Family, friends, neighbours or colleagues each put in the same amount, usually every month, and each month one of them takes the full amount. People often join one with a planned expense in mind, like a wedding, a move or the start of the school year.

Moroccan families in the UK and across Europe run darets the same way, often across mixed groups of relatives and colleagues. That’s where a shared, neutral record helps most.

How a daret works

Share
The amount each person puts in every month.
Turn
The month you receive everyone’s share.
Organiser
The person who collects the names, agrees the order and follows up.
Round
The daret ends when everyone has had a turn, and often starts again.
The payout timeline in Throw, headed Whose turn is it: each month shows who receives the £400 pot, with the current turn highlighted.

Who goes first?

Deciding the order is often the most delicate part of a daret, especially in a mixed group.

  1. Let Throw draw the order. A random draw, visible to everyone, takes the decision away from any one person.
  2. Or set it together. The organiser can fix the order agreed in the group.
  3. Swap only by agreement. Two members can swap turns only if both say yes.
  4. Everyone sees the dates. Each member knows their month from the start.

How Throw helps your Daret

  • No interest, no lendingNobody pays or earns interest. Each member receives exactly what the group puts in for their turn.
  • The money never sits with anyoneEach payment goes from one member’s bank straight to the member receiving. Throw never holds it.
  • Reminders before each due dateSo the organiser doesn’t have to send them.
  • A record for mixed groupsRelatives, neighbours and colleagues all see the same list of who has paid.

Throw never holds the money and doesn’t guarantee or cover missed payments. Payments are started by Yapily Connect Ltd, authorised by the FCA (FRN 827001). Read how Throw works, step by step, or see plans and pricing.

Daret questions

Does anyone pay or earn interest?

No. Throw doesn’t lend money and nobody earns interest on the pot. Each member gets back exactly what the group puts in for their turn. The only cost is Throw’s flat fee, which is shown before anyone joins.

Is Throw available in Arabic or French?

Not yet. The app is in English for now.

Does Throw hold our money?

No. Every contribution goes from the payer’s bank account straight to the member receiving the pot that cycle. Throw records the payment and shows its status. The only money paid to Throw is its own fee.

What if someone doesn’t pay?

Throw reminds them before the due date and tells the organiser when a payment is late. The rules your group agrees at the start decide the grace period and what happens next, and everything is recorded where the whole group can see it.

Members can ask for more time, swap turns or hand their place to someone else. Throw doesn’t cover missed payments.

Can family abroad join?

For now, everyone pays in pounds from a UK bank account. Members abroad can’t pay through Throw yet.

What does it cost?

£1.49 per member per month on Standard, or £2.49 on Plus, for the length of the circle. It’s charged once at the start with one bank approval, so there are no monthly charges. The organiser can run the group for free.
