The pardner book, on everyone’s phone.
Throw keeps the hands, the draw order and the receipts. Each hand goes from your bank straight to whoever’s draw it is, so the banker never has to hold the money.

What is pardner?
Pardner is a rotating savings scheme from Jamaica. Everyone in the pardner pays the same amount each week or month, and each time one person takes the whole sum, called their draw. It runs on trust and on the banker, the person who collects the hands and keeps the book.
People who came to Britain from the Caribbean, the Windrush generation among them, brought pardner with them. Many families used it to save for things that were hard to borrow for, like a deposit on a home. Plenty still run one today, often with the same names in the book for years.
What is a pardner hand?
If you grew up with pardner you’ll know these. If you didn’t, here is the vocabulary.
- Hand
- One share in the pardner, and the amount you pay each round. “Throwing a hand” means paying in. Some people take two hands and pay twice.
- Banker
- The person who runs the pardner: collects every hand, keeps the book and pays out each draw.
- Draw
- Your turn to receive the full amount. The draw order is agreed at the start.
- The book
- The banker’s record of who is in, who has paid and who draws when.

Being the banker, without the weight
The banker has the hardest job in a pardner: holding cash, remembering who paid, and chasing late hands. Throw keeps the role and takes away the heavy parts.
- You set the pardner up. The amount of a hand, weekly, fortnightly or monthly, and how many hands.
- You agree the draw order. Set it yourself or draw it at random. Everyone sees the same order and dates.
- Everyone throws their hand from their own bank. It goes straight to the person whose draw it is. You never have to hold it.
- The book keeps itself. Every hand is recorded as it’s confirmed, and everyone sees the same book.
How Throw helps your Pardner
- The banker doesn’t hold the cashEach hand goes from the payer’s bank to the person drawing that round. Throw doesn’t hold it either.
- Reminders before every hand is dueThrow sends them, so nobody has to knock on doors or send the awkward message.
- Late hands are tracked, calmlyGrace days, requests for more time and swaps are recorded in the same book everyone can see.
- More than one handOn Throw Plus a member can take more than one hand, and receives a draw for each.
Throw never holds the money and doesn’t guarantee or cover missed payments. Payments are started by Yapily Connect Ltd, authorised by the FCA (FRN 827001). Read how Throw works, step by step, or see plans and pricing.
Pardner questions
Does the banker still have a role?
Yes. The banker sets the pardner up, invites the hands, agrees the draw order and deals with problems. What changes is that the money no longer passes through the banker’s hands, and the book is kept for them.
Can I take two hands?
Yes, on Throw Plus a member can take more than one hand. They pay for each hand every round and receive a draw for each one.
What if someone needs their draw early?
They can ask to swap turns with another member. The swap only happens if the other person agrees, and the new order is recorded for everyone.
What if someone doesn’t pay?
Throw reminds them before the due date and tells the organiser when a payment is late. The rules your group agrees at the start decide the grace period and what happens next, and everything is recorded where the whole group can see it.
Members can ask for more time, swap turns or hand their place to someone else. Throw doesn’t cover missed payments.
Does Throw hold our money?
No. Every contribution goes from the payer’s bank account straight to the member receiving the pot that cycle. Throw records the payment and shows its status. The only money paid to Throw is its own fee.
What does it cost?
£1.49 per member per month on Standard, or £2.49 on Plus, for the length of the circle. It’s charged once at the start with one bank approval, so there are no monthly charges. The organiser can run the group for free.
